This weekend, activists in Uganda - a country where homosexuality is punishable by death - held their first Pride.

This is the epitome of courage. I have no other words.

Startling images connect banning same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships to the nation’s history of racial segregation.

Nope.

Wow, fuck everyone who made this and everyone who supports it. Fuck you.

This is a mess. For the mainstream gay marriage movement which is overwhelmingly white, cis, and affluent to appropriate Jim Crow segregation imagery is EXTREMELY gross considering white liberals ACTIVELY exclude people of color and trans people from this movement all the time. Like why would you go out of your way to use this imagery while you ignore the literal and institutional violence and second-class treatment perpetrated against queer people TODAY who might not fit into your cis white middle class image? Against homeless queer teens, against the queer people of color in our prison system, against trans people trying not to get beaten to death? Why not put that imagery on blast?

Fuck you, as a queer person of color who believes in marriage equality, because aren’t you the same assholes who blamed black people for overturning Prop 8 but now you want to use segregation imagery to raise awareness? Fuck you.

Twilight Lovers (1994) by Tina Fiveash

Inspired by ‘Girl’s Own’ annuals and the Australian Women’s Weekly magazine from the 1950s, Stories for Girls is a tongue-in-cheek attempt to recreate missing lesbian photographic history from an era where homosexuality was a criminal offense, and lesbians were forced to remain in the closet and keep their relationships hidden from society.
